I believe In Music the noblest of all the arts, a source of much that is good, just and beautiful In Friendship marked by love, kindness and sincerity In Harmony the essence of a true and happy life I Believe in the Bond of Our Fraternity loyal, generous, and self-sacrificing, and its strength shall ever guide me in the path that leads upwards toward the stars. Music, Friendship, Harmony - these are the ideals of Mu Phi Epsilon. We actively promote music, scholarship and musicianship in our universities, communities, and throughout the world.
Mu Phi Epsilon was founded on November 13, 1903 at the Metropolitan College of Music in Cincinnati, Ohio. Today, Mu Phi Epsilon has well over 125 collegiate chapters in three countries, over 70 alumni chapters, and more than 70,000 members! The Mu Phi Epsilon Centennial was celebrated in Cincinnati, August of 2003. To see the letters of congratulations from President Bush and Governor Bob Taft, CLICK HERE.
In addition to the International Concert Artist Competition, Mu Phi Epsilon International and the Mu Phi Epsilon Foundation give many awards to collegiate and alumni members. These awards range from scholarships to summer music programs such as the Aspen Music School, to grants for foreign study, doctoral research, and awards in specific musical areas, such as composition, voice, or music therapy. All of the application forms and details of each award are published in our quarterly magazine, the Triangle. There are numerous local music competitions which are sponsored by local alumni chapters as well.
To join Mu Phi Epsilon you must be a music major or minor at the collegiate level, or if you wish to join an alumni group (in case we missed your college days), a music professional in any area of music. For more information, please consult the Collegiate and Alumni Chapter Links section for a chapter near you. Remember, not every chapter has a web site, so if you don't find one nearby, please write to the International Executive Office for assistance.
